Luke 17:7-8

English original

Luke 17:7-10) is a parable that is unique to Luke. A servant, whether he plows or watches sheep, when he comes in from a hard day's work, the servant will still have to fix dinner for his master! He must serve his master before he gets to have his own meal. His work never seems to be done. Yet no thanks is offered to the servant, as he is simply fulfilling his rightful obligations. So, the saint's attitude at the end of the day should be that they have only done their duty. Obedience is not a matter of merit, but of duty. True believers are like servants who, even when they have done all that was demanded can at best confess that they are unworthy and have only fulfilled their obligations.

A servant was hired to serve, not be part of the master's family. The servant's needs came second to the master's.
