Luke 4:38-39

English original

This miracle is covered in detail in the Gospel of Mark (below). Peter was a married man. His mother-in-law was sick. Though both Matthew and Mark report this miracle, only Luke speaks of a high fever, a possible indication of Dr. Luke's (Col. 4:14) medical interest. That Jesus rebuked the fever may mean that he saw Satan being behind it in some way. In Luke 4:43 is Luke's first mention of the Kingdom of God, which was Jesus,' THE KING OF KINGS, most frequent topic. This phrase points to the divine compulsion in the mission of Jesus. The Kingdom was central.

Simon. Simon Peter, the man who would become the leader of the apostles (6:14; Matt. 16:17-18). mother-in-law. See 1 Cor. 9:5. high fever. As before in his teaching and power over demons, Jesus reveals himself to be one with authority over the sickness itself (v. 40). With his rebuke, the woman didn't just start to get better, she was immediately healed. This healing probably helped prepare Simon to accept Jesus's call to follow him (5:1-11).
